GREAT FALLS, Montana – The University of Great Falls Women’s Soccer team had their work cut out for them against a quality opponent in Oregon Institute of Technology. The Lady Argos showed flashes of brilliance but unfortunately lost 6-3.
The first half was littered with shots on goal and long passes by both squads. Crystal Foster struck first for the Owls in the 22nd minute. The Lady Argos did a great job of responding quickly with a goal on a free kick in the 26th minute. Shortly after, both Kenzie Harding of OIT and Jean Escobar of UGF scored unassisted goals for their respective teams. Ashlyn Hanson of the Owls finished off the first half scoring on a shot that hit the right post and bounced through. The University of Great Falls only trailed 3-2 at half.
Rebekah Nisbet played a key role for the Owls in the second half. She had an unassisted goal in the 48th minute and assisted Crystal Foster’s goal in the 74th minute. UGF played good defense but the Owls seemed to find gaps at vital times. The Lady Argos energy never wavered and it paid off late for Carly Armstrong. She dribbled between two defenders and made a great shot, just slipping past the Owls goalie. Great Falls played extremely hard but the Owls were able to survive, winning 6-3.
The Lady Argos next game is in Idaho against Northwest Nazarene University on September 4th. Their next home game will be on September 12th against Jamestown College.
