Helena, MT- Carroll College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Shawn Nelson has announced that Helena Capital High School Senior Maggie Rickman (6’1) has committed to play basketball for the Fighting Saints in the fall of 2011 pending her acceptance to Carroll College.

“I looked at a lot of schools and I chose Carroll because it had the best of everything. I feel it is the best fit for me academically and athletically and it really felt like a family,” says Rickman.

“Maggie is an exceptional athlete and can really get out and run the floor. Her athleticism allows her to play several positions on the floor. She is great with her back to basket and shoots it from the outside as well. Her ability to rebound and her strength underneath will be a huge addition for us,” says Coach Nelson. “One of her biggest strengths is her ability to handle the basketball and create scoring opportunities for herself and others. She will be a great in our up and down style, especially in the press. She has unlimited potential and we are unbelievably excited that she has chosen Carroll College.”

Rickman was named 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-State her junior season, while leading the Bruins to a 10-2 conference record and averaging 12 points per game and seven rebounds in her first season with the Bruins after transferring from a high school in California. She was also a member of the Big Sky Hoops AAU team that won the Las Vegas Tournament and finished second in the Oregon City Tournament this summer.

“Maggie really fits in with our team and our players really like her and the way she plays. Carroll will be a great fit for her academically and athletically,” says Coach Nelson

“Maggie is a great addition and asset to our program at Capital High School and I know she will be a great player for Coach Nelson at Carroll,” says Capital High School’s Head Girl’s Basketball Coach Bill Pilgeram.

The 2010-2011 Fighting Saints open up at home Oct. 15 vs. Mount Royal University.
