Tucson, AZ – The University of Great Falls softball team went 2-0 on the day, taking a 6-4 win against Robert Morris University in an early morning tilt before scoring a 7-4 come-from-behind win over Iowa Wesleyan in the team’s final game of this trip to the 2010 Tucson Invitational. The two wins gives the Lady Argos a current four-game winning streak and they’ve now won eight of their last nine to push their overall record to 11-6.

“Those were two righteous wins today,” said UGF head coach Gary Ehnes. “Robert Morris was coming off a big win yesterday (17-0) against Dickinson State (ND) who is number two in the country at the moment, so for us to pick up that win was big. And then, you could tell our girls were kind of gassed in that last game against Iowa Wesleyan but we found a way to get it done. That’s what good teams do; they find ways to win.”

Amanda Morris (Great Falls, MT) led off the early game against RMU with her second home run of the season. The Eagles tied up the score in the home half of the third inning and the game remained tight until the Lady Argos put five runs on the board in the sixth. RMU responded with three in their half of the sixth but sophomore Casey Olson (Freeman, WA) entered the game in relief of starter Lindsay Cline (Helena, MT) and shut down the Eagles’ offense, gaining a four-out save in the process. Cline came back on short rest after last night’s 2-1 win over Judson to pick up the win.

In the trip finale against Iowa Wesleyan, the Lady Argos rallied for four runs in the seventh to turn a one-run deficit into a 7-4 lead, which ended up being the final score. With Morris and pinch hitter Desiree Clarke (Whitefish, MT) on base and in scoring position, junior Brittanie Thibodeaux (Lake Stevens, WA) came through with a huge two-RBI single back through the middle, putting her team ahead for good. The Lady Argos would add two more insurance runs when Jenna Rosenberg (Othello, WA) doubled down the left field line scoring Stacy Gray (Spokane, WA), who was pinch running for Thibodeaux, and Anna Owen (Toledo, WA), who reached base on an error.

Thibodeaux finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate while Rosenberg went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Sarah DeVore (Hardin, MT) picked up the win in relief for UGF. She allowed one run on four hits while striking out four in five innings of work.

The Lady Argos travel to Glendive next weekend for four exhibition contests with Dawson Community College. They officially are back in action on March 27 with a doubleheader scheduled at the College of Idaho.
