Well water suspected of causing sickness at resortBOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Public health officials are investigating an outbreak of illness they believe is tied to contaminated well water at a resort near Hebgen Lake in southwestern Montana. The Gallatin County Health Department and the state Department of Public Health and Human Services have confirmed 14 cases of the common campylobacter gastrointestinal illness and suspect at least 70 more. Health officials say they believe those affected became sick by drinking contaminated water at the Campfire Lodge Resort. The well has been shut off, but officials are recommending that all drinking water at the resort be boiled until testing is complete. Symptoms of the illness typically last a week and include diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain and sometimes fever. The illness begins as early as a day after exposure and up to 10 days later. ___ Information from: KBZK-TV, http://www.kbzk.com |
