BUTTE - The Montana Highway Patrol says a man in his early 70s was killed when his pickup was struck while he tried to make a U-turn on Interstate 90 near Whitehall.

Capt. Gary Becker says the man was eastbound on the interstate at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when he tried to make a U-turn into the westbound lane. Becker says it appears the man's truck was struck by another pickup as he tried to make the illegal turn.

After being hit, the victim's truck continued east and struck a car. The driver was ejected into the ditch and died at the scene.

The man's name hasn't been released.
