MISSOULA - The Ravalli County Sheriff says a deputy has been put on administrative leave in connection with the theft of rifle and handgun ammunition from the department.

Sheriff Chris Hoffman says the department contacted the state Division of Criminal Investigation once the ammo was discovered missing. A news release said the theft was of "a significant amount."

The deputy's name has not been released, and there have not been any charges filed or arrests made in the case. If the case is prosecuted, it will be handled by the state attorney general's office.
