BOZEMAN - The Bozeman Community Food Co-op has laid off 27 people from its staff of 160, citing lower sales and a lack of its normal winter attrition.

General manager Kelly Wiseman says about 20 people usually leave during the holidays, but that didn't happen this year. He says only four people quit. Most of those who lost their jobs Monday were part-time employees in the kitchen area of the natural foods market and cafe.

Wiseman says the cuts went across all departments and all levels of seniority. He said laid-off workers would continue to receive a 20% employee discount for three months.
