EUREKA - A Eureka man has pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on a police officer in a drug-fueled shooting spree in May.

Harry Sultzer III pleaded guilty on November 3rd. His sentencing was scheduled for December 15th. Prosecutors say Sultzer was under the influence of drugs on May 20th when he pointed a rifle at a friend and shot through the roof of a trailer house.

Later, while driving through town, police tried to pull Sultzer over because he was driving erratically. Prosecutors say Sultzer sped back to his trailer, got out of the truck and pointed his rifle at two deputies.

Deputy Steve Short fired three rounds at Sultzer, hitting him twice in the chest. Court records say Sultzer fired 8-to-10 rounds at Short before his gun jammed, hitting a patrol car and a nearby van. Short was not injured.
