HELENA - A former state Department of Transportation employee pleaded guilty Thursday to receipt and possession of child pornography.

Robert A. Cummings, of Helena, entered his plea before Senior U.S. District Judge Charles Lovell. Court records say DOT officials called Helena police on Aug. 25 after an external computer drive was hooked up to Cummings' work computer, triggering a warning to network managers.

A software analyst accessed the external drive and found images of child pornography. The hard drive was seized and a search warrant obtained. Cummings has been in custody since his Aug. 28 arraignment. DOT Director Jim Lynch said Cummings resigned after his arrest. Sentencing is set for Feb. 12th.
