LIBBY - A hearing began Tuesday before the Montana Judicial Standards Commission for a Libby judge accused of offering female defendants leniency in return for sexual favors.

Eleven women, five of whom are unnamed, have complained that Justice of the Peace Gary Hicks made advances toward them while they were appearing before him as defendants in legal matters. Hicks also is accused of making inappropriate comments on the women's appearance and stopping by several of their homes. He has denied any wrongdoing.

The Lincoln County sheriff's office says it first received a complaint last year; but the allegations date back to 2005. Hicks' hearing at the Lincoln County Courthouse is expected to last three days. Prosecutors say nine of the complainants will testify.
