HELENA - The Montana Department of Environmental quality plans to auction an estimated $1.5 million worth of used mining equipment from the former Beal Mountain gold mine southwest of Fairmont Hot Springs.

The DEQ acquired the equipment, buildings, tools and other items in 2001 from a bankruptcy proceeding with Beal Mountain Mining and Pegasus Gold. The DEQ plans to use the money generated from next Thursday's auction to help defray mine reclamation costs.

Items being auctioned include metal buildings, air compressors, pumps, piping, motors, generators, tanks, office equipment, ATVs, snowmobiles and even a pickup truck.

The Beal Mountain Mine operated from 1988 to the late 1990s. Fourteen million tons of ore were mined.
