Lincoln County deputy shoots suspect who points rifle at him

KALISPELL - A 54-year-old Eureka man who allegedly pointed a rifle at a Lincoln County sheriff's deputy remains hospitalized in Kalispell after being shot by the deputy.

County Attorney Bernie Cassidy says officers were investigating a report that Harry Sultzer had been shooting a gun in a Eureka house Tuesday. They spotted the suspect's vehicle as he was apparently heading back to the home. Cassidy says the suspect stopped, got out of his vehicle and pointed a rifle at a deputy, who shot the man.

Sultzer fired between eight and 10 rounds, some of which hit the deputy's marked patrol car. He was hospitalized in serious but stable condition Wednesday night with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.
