Billings Chamber wins regional promotion contract

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The state says the Billings Chamber of Commerce will take over tourism promotion for 13 counties in southeastern Montana.

The Billings Chamber has said it wants to market Custer Country as a historic adventure.

Custer Country is one of Montana's six regional tourism promotion groups. The regional groups each receive a portion of the lodging tax money collected in the area, and Custer Country received about $400,000.

The Department of Commerce earlier this year ended its contract with Forsyth-based Custer Country Montana Inc. over the way it awarded a contract to publish its tourism guide last year.

The Department of Commerce announced the change to lawmakers on Friday. The next step will be to approve the Billings Chamber's marketing plan.
