Havre Special Olympians Head to Bozeman

Some area athletes are on their way to compete in the Montana Special Olympics State Summer Games. Anticipating the journey for a whole year, 40 athletes from Havre made their way to Bozeman today.

"I'm really excited. Super-duper excited," said Wendy.

"This is the one thing in their life that they look forward to every year," said Shaylee Lewis of Montana Special Olympics. "They talk about it for weeks. It is an absolute joy."

The three-day competition begins tomorrow.For this group from Havre, it is a way to participate in their chosen events, while making friends along the way.

"teammates like her and her and him," said Eallen. "We compete in special olympics."

Special olympics is not about winning and losing. Instead it's about physical fitness, demonstrating courage, and sharing these experiences with friends, family and other athletes.

"They learn about life through sports," said Lewis. "Not only is it about sports, they have grown so much. Every athlete grows."

These athletes are making Havre proud, as they cherish an experience that they won't soon forget.

"I like running, jumping, and throwing," said Lance.

" I like having fun and listening to music," said Erik

Special Olympics is the world's largest program of sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities. More than 1 million athletes participate worldwide.
