Ceramic Tile
  • Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Hard Surface Care Kit gives you the tools to preserve the appearance of your tile. Vacuum or sweep the floor with the Dry Mop Cloth to remove any particles that may scratch your tile. Then apply the Hard Surface Cleaner directly to the Microfiber Wet Mop Cloth. Use a back and forth motion with the mop, and replace the cloth when it becomes soiled to prevent streaking. Do not use bleach or fabric softener when laundering the Microfiber Cloths. The cloths are reusable and can withstand over 1000 washes.
  • Protection: Use felt pads under chair legs and check for dirt that may scratch your floor; vacuum or sweep regulary; remove spills promptly with a clean Microfiber Cloth and Hard Surface Cleaner; use mats at all exterior entrances; do not use cleaners containing ammonia or acids (acid will damage grout and glazed surface of tile, ammonia will discolor grout); do not use oil soap or wax to clean the floor; use a professional strength Grout Cleaner to remove grease/soap scum/ mildew from grout.

Natural Stone
  • Sealing- StoneTech Professional Sealer fills in the natural pores of stone and repels spills on the suface. Some sealers can enhance (darken) stone and other retain the natural hue. Different stones require different types of sealer, depending on how you will be using the stone and what appearance you would prefer. Grout also needs to be sealed, using StoneTech Professional Heavy Duty Sealer to protect against water and oil based stains.
  • Basic Cleaning- once sealed, stone is easy to clean. StoneTech Professional Revitalizer is gentle, yet removes soil and reinforces the original protective seal to prevent future stains. General household cleaners are NOT recommended, as they may break down the sealer and make stone vulnerable to staining. Also, many of those cleaning products contain acids which will etch the surface of the stone.
  • Special Cleaning- for soil caused by pets or children (excrement, vomit), clean up as quickly as possible, then spray the area with Revitalizer and wipe with a clean white cloth. For mud on stone, let it dry completely and then remove it with a soft plastic or nylon brush. Spray the area with StoneTech Professional Stone & Tile Cleaner and wipe dry with a clean cloth. In the case of oil-based stains (salad dressing, cooking oil, butter, cosmetics), use StoneTech Professional Oil Stain Remover to pull up the stain from within the stone.
  • Etching- etch marks on stone look like water spots or worn polish. They are the result of contact with acidic substances like orange juice, coffee, vinegar, wine, tomato products, etc. Be sure to use coasters on countertops. Acid-resistant stones such as most granite, slate and sandstone will typically not etch. Sealing will not prevent etching.
  • Maintenance- in the bath and other wet areas, use a squeegee after each use to prevent buildup of soap scum and hard water deposits. Clean these areas with StoneTech Professional Revitalizer or Stone & Tile Cleaner. Kitchen and bathroom counters may be cleaned with Revitalizer to remove everyday spills and residue from cosmetics. For floors, use a clean, non-treated dry dust mop to pick up particles that may scratch the surface. Mats and area rugs will also minimize damage. Be careful when using a vacuum as the beater bar and wheels can scratch the stone. Damp-mop with a diluted solution of StoneTech Professsional Stone & Tile Cleaner.

REMEMBER: ONLY USE PRODUCTS SPECIFICALLY FORMULATED FOR STONE

NOTE: vacuum beater bars or power rotary brush heads can damage wood flooring and should never be used. Use a back and forth motion with the mop, and replace the cloth when it becomes soiled to prevent streaking. Do no use bleach or fabric softener when laundering the Microfiber Cloths. Frequently Asked Questions

The Flooring Place makes it easy to maintain your hard and soft surface flooring with a collection of specialty products. Keep the beauty of your new carpet, ceramic tile, natural stone and wood by following these simple steps.
Carpet
  • Vacuum regularly- high traffic areas daily, medium to high traffic areas twice weekly, and the entire house at least once a week. Use a vacuum with a rotating brush or beater bar, and check the bag often. Some thick loop pile carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush is used—in that case, a suction vacuum is recommended.
  • Cleaning- even with regular vacuuming, dirt can be driven down deep into the carpet due to foot traffic. Professional cleaning (using the hot water extraction method) is recommended every 12 to 18 months to refresh the carpet’s appearance. Entrances and doorways may show soil faster than other areas, so clean them as soon as they start to look dirty—this will prevent the dirt from spreading, and allow more time between professional cleanings.
  • Spot Removal- the affected area(s) should be treated immediately. Stains will be more difficult to remove after setting. For the best results, use Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Carpet Spot Remover Cleaning Kit. First, scrape the spill gently with the Mohawk Cleaning Key, removing as much as possible. Next, apply the Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Carpet Spot Remover to the stain, working from the outer edge inward. Blot with a clean Mohawk Microfiber Cloth, taking care not to rub, as the carpet may fuzz. Spray and blot the stain until it is gone, but do not over-saturate the carpet. Use small amounts of the solution and blot frequently.
  • Preventative Maintenance- using mats or runners at entrances and uncarpeted areas adjacent to carpet will reduce soil and moisture in traffic areas. Furniture coasters are recommended to evenly distribute the weight of heavy items. To extend the beauty of your carpet, close drapes or blinds during hours of direct sunlight. Be cautious in using strong chemicals near carpeting (bleach, bathroom cleaners, oven cleaner, plant food, drain openers) as they may cause permanent damage.
